Greyfriar's Tower

The Greyfriar's Tower is one of only 3 surviving Franciscan monestry towers in the country. Following the dissolution of the Monestrys during Henry VIII's reign most were destroy. The Greyfriar's Tower survives only because it was considered a useful seamark.
Today the tower stands in the background to a small public garden next to the library. The tower itself is leaning dangerously to the west, however plans are being drawn up to correct this problem to ensure the tower remains with the town for centuries to come.
